The United States Bankruptcy Court, District of Utah has updated its Bankruptcy Filing Statistics for 2012. The bankruptcy court provides a 12-month trend with year over year reporting. For September, the report shows trends across the entire state, beyond our South Jordan, Layton, and Salt Lake City office locations. The report reveals the filing data: Chapter 7 bankruptcy law filings at 866, Chapter 13 bankruptcy law filings at 388, and Chapter 11 bankruptcy law filings at 1.
The filing statistics reveal that every month this year, the numbers of cases filed through the United States Bankruptcy Court, District of Utah, have consistently been lower than the Year 2011. The question at hand is whether the economy is improving, based on the decreased number of bankruptcy cases filed in the Year 2012 as compared to the Year 2011; or whether the cases will return to last year’s levels once the election in November occurs.
